ABOUT OUR FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL
Bernard “Bernie” LoVerde Jr., Founder & Principal of Bernard LoVerde & Company, LLC (“BJL”), leads the firm’s strategic advisory and fractional executive practices and oversees client relationships for a diverse set of clients focused currently in the Mortgage Banking industry, including the law firms that represent both bank and non-bankfinancial institutions in that industry.
This leadership role also includes working with a collection of private money lenders and non-institutional banks that issue private money loans, or bridge loans, which are primarily secured by real estate assets and most often to finance the purchase, and renovations, of investment properties in the commercial and residential real estate markets in the United States (“U.S.”). Bernie’s extensive experience, and network of key contacts across various industry segments, enable BJL to assist its clients across the full spectrum of the mortgage banking and financial services landscapes.
As a highly experienced executive with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams of professionals to new levels of success within competitive industries and cutting-edge, fast-paced environments, Bernie holds a proven ability to successfully analyze critical business requirements and identify deficiencies to optimize results and achieve a profitable turnaround. Additionally, and in conjunction with his ability to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions that increase the return on investments and operations while enhancing the customer experience, he drives positive top- and bottom-line performance and possesses a solid record of increasing sales, turning around various businesses, and training future leaders in intensely competitive industries. This comes from a focus on enhancing the client's market share, strategic relationships, and alliances throughout his contacts in the U.S. Financial Services industry, with a core focus on the Mortgage Banking and Special Assets industries.
An investment banking, mortgage banking, title insurance, and default & legal services veteran, Bernie is well-respected throughout those industries. Before dedicating his full-time efforts to BJL, Bernie served as a C-suite executive (Chief Strategy, Client & Business Development Officer) of two of the largest Creditor’s Rights and Default Services-focused law firms in the United States, where he was a member of the executive committees of both firms. One of these firms maintained a nationwide bankruptcy practice group while the other led one of the largest, if not the largest, REO closing operations in the U.S. at the time.
Before those positions, Bernie served as an Officer, Vice President, Director of Sales & Client Services, and Director, Default Services Division, of Public Abstract Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of First American Title Insurance Company of New York (First American), and was an Executive Committee Member of that entity as well. While serving in that role, Bernie was also simultaneously an executive of First American National Default Title Services, the parent of which, First American Title Insurance Company, is both a perennial Fortune 500 company as well as a Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For. While at First American, Bernie led a redesign of the company’s aforementioned default services operation in New York State, which became the model program for direct default operation redesigns in other states nationwide for its National Default Title Services operation(s). Furthermore, Bernie was also selected as one of 22 out of 14,600 (top 1/10th of 1%) U.S. employees of First American Title Insurance Company by its executive management to attend its ‘Advanced Leadership Skills Program’ in 2004.
Bernie began his career in Investment Banking and eventually rose to senior positions within two investment banking firms, one regional along the East Coast, East Coastnational, which, at its height, had 15 offices and 1,000+ employees, and which was also a New York Stock Exchange (“NYSE”) member firm. It was during this time that Bernie honed his focus and skills in Audit, Compliance and Vendor & Legal Network Management, including the management of litigation and regulatory counsel throughout the United States on a regional basis, rising to the role of Corporate Compliance Officer & Senior Internal Auditor. While a part of the investment banking industry, Bernie was licensed under the National Association of Securities Dealers (“NASD” now known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. or “FINRA”) and remained in good standing while formerly holding the NASD Series 6, 7, 8, 24, and 63 licenses, some of which were considered a “Principal” or “Managers” licenses. From there, Bernie served as a senior executive of a family office with a team of professionals, for an ultra-high net worth family overseeing a portfolio of, and subsequent disposition/liquidation of, a multi-hundred-million-dollar commercial and multi-family real estate portfolio.
In addition to the above, Bernie served as the co-chair of the Marketing & Business Development Committee of the American Legal and Financial Network (“ALFN”) from the committee’s inception several years ago until 2018 (he is still an active member of the Committee). He has been, or is still, on the management committees of several charitable organizations, including the Al Sigl Community of Agencies, where he has dedicated his time since 2004.
